Mission Slovenia: Bangladesh Finalizes National Team for IAIO 2026

Beyond the Code: Bangladesh’s Journey to the International AI Olympiad 2026

As of May 2026, the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN) and the Institute of Information Technology (IIT, DU) have reached the final selection phase for the national team that will represent the country at the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IAIO) 2026 in Slovenia.

The 2026 Selection Highlights:

  • The Kaggle Challenge: Over 2,000 students from across Bangladesh participated in a grueling five-hour machine learning marathon hosted on the Kaggle platform.
  • Core Disciplines: Competitors were tested on their ability to solve real-world problems using Natural Language Processing (NLP), Computer Vision, and Neural Network optimization.
  • Inclusive Talent: This year saw a record 40% increase in participation from students outside of Dhaka, showcasing the growing decentralized tech talent in regions like Khulna, Rajshahi, and Sylhet.

The Road to Slovenia: The selected “Top 5” will undergo intensive mentorship at a specialized training camp focused on advanced heuristic search and ethical AI frameworks. For Bangladesh, this isn’t just a competition; it is a strategic move to position the nation as a hub for AI research and development in South Asia.
